What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?:
I first became involved in Iditarod because I actually wanted to learn a little bit more about the sport and actually, the care of the animals. So what better way than to actually be involved to see hands-on what’s happening, so that I could make my own determination of what I thought about the sport.
What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?
I’m here today and I’m involved with Iditarod because I actually really enjoyed it. I learned a lot in my first year as volunteering in terms of, again, the dog care, the dog handling, all about that, and really seeing that it takes a team of volunteers to make Iditarod happen.
Tell me about your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:
One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was the year that COVID started. So I was in the warm-up trailer and I ran into DeeDee Jonrowe. She actually was a speaker at one of my state conferences a few years prior to, and we had a great photo together. I showed it to her and I said, “We need to recreate this photo.” And she was like, “Absolutely.” And we did. So that was amazing.
What do you know for sure?:
What I know for sure in life is that so cliche, life is short. But you really have to just pause and enjoy every moment that you are in versus rushing from moment to moment. Just really sink it in and enjoy it.
