What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?:
I was born in 1996 and that’s when I became involved with the Iditarod. It probably would’ve been my first word if I could say it. And I grew up around dog racing with my family. My grandfather, Dan, helped start the race. My brother and my father have won the race, and I had the pleasure of running the Junior Iditarod. About as long as I can remember.
What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?
I was involved with the Iditarod because I was involved with training and racing and feeding and picking up after the dogs, and racing was the fun part and it was in my blood.
Tell me about your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:
One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was on the Junior Iditarod getting attacked by a moose. I had highs and lows on the Junior Iditarod from winning it to coming in second to last because of getting lost. But me and my friend got attacked by a moose when we were… I think it was our first or second time doing it, and came right down the trail, ran right through the middle of his team right next to me and turned around and looked at us like it was going to do it again, and we high-tailed it out of there.
What do you know for sure?:
What I know for sure in life is that if you want to see something in the world, you have to create it or you have to be involved in creating it. My grandfather, Dan, wanted to see a race that kept dog mushing alive and he helped start it. And that’s not my path, but I know for sure if you want to see something, you got to go out and do it.
