What is your Why?.. Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?:
BECAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO AND FUN AND EXCITING IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE GOING ON, AND I GOT CAUGHT UP IN ALL THE EXCITEMENT OF IT.
Tell me about your most rewarding experience on Iditarod?:
WELL, I’VE GOT A LOT OF MEMORABLE ONES, BUT BREAKING TRAIL FOR MANY YEARS OUT THERE WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND SOMETIMES BY MYSELF IN DEEP SNOW. COLD TEMPERATURES. SOME OF MY MOST MEMORABLE TIMES, OR ONE THAT I REMEMBER, WAS EXTREME TEMPERATURES – 50 AND 60 BELOW – AND I WAS OUT WITH DAVE MONSON AND HIS WIFE, SUSAN BUTCHER. AND I WAS TRYING TO HELP PUT A TRAIL IN FOR HER PRACTICE RUN FOR THAT YEAR. SHE ENDED UP, I BELIEVE, WINNING THAT YEAR. AND SHE WAS PRACTICING OUT IN THE DIRECTION OF IDITAROD.
What do you know for sure?:
NOT TOO MUCH. I JUST — AS THEY SAY, DEATH AND TAXES, THAT’S ABOUT IT.
