Years involved with Iditarod: I was at my dads first Iditarod in 1973. And throughout his 11 years of racing, I’ve played a lot of roles of helping him and making socks and whatever stuff he needed. 

Past Iditarod Roles: Helping my dad, Herbie Nayokpuk run the race. My husband was previously a ham operator.

What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first got involved with the first iditarod in 1973 when my dad, Herby Nayokpuk, from Shishmaref, Alaska, ran the first race.

What was one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences?

One of my first memorable Iditarod experiences was when my dad came in second in 1980.

What does the 50th running of the Iditarod mean to you?

Knowing this is the 50th Iditarod makes me feel special, because it’s special to be here to meet all the people that I got to meet throughout the years. And this is a special occasion. I just wish my mom, Elizabeth Nayokpuk was here.

What I know for sure in life is, it goes by quick. But we have wonderful memories. Make sure in life that you highlight these important memories. What I know for sure in life is, enjoy life because it goes by quickly. And treasure the memories that you’ve made and the people that have made it special for you.
