What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?
I got involved with the Iditarod in 2015. My friend Middy Johnson, basically just called me up and said, “I need your help.” Came down at 11 o’clock at night and stayed till seven in the morning. Did that two days in a row and been kind of helping off and on ever since.
What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?
I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod because it’s kind of just a thing to do this time of year. I had some friends come in from out of town also wanting to volunteer, so I brought them.
Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences.
One of my most memorable Iditarod experience was when my mom came up here. She’s originally from Idaho and coming up to Alaska was her dream, and part of that dream was to come see the Iditarod. When she did, she took so many pictures and cried all the time and just really became big, big deal to her. Now that she’s retired, she’s sending me all these 50th anniversary posters this year and pictures from the time she spent here helping and volunteering.
What in life do you know for sure?
What I know for sure in life is you can never give up, work your hardest, and make your life happy.
