What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first became involved with Iditarod when I tried to buy Tyrell Seavey’s car. He was selling in Seward. And I did not actually buy it, but then I ran into him at a yard sale later, at his grandpa’s yard sale, and he recruited me then to be in the Iditarod.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved with Iditarod because of the adventure the Iditarod brings to my life. It gets me out of the house into some really cool places in Alaska that I could not otherwise reach by monetary or other means. So it’s a lot of fun and meet a lot of interesting people. There’s always something new every year.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences.

One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was two years ago in Cripple, Karin Hendrickson came into the checkpoint and her headlamp had died and she only had… she had a spare, but she was worried about making it. So we improvised a soldering iron out of a torch and a screwdriver, got her fixed up and sent her on the trail.

What in life do you know for sure?

What I know for sure in life is if you work hard and keep your attitude good, then you’re going to have a good time, no matter what happens.
