What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?
I got involved with the Iditarod after my boss Josie was looking for a volunteer to go and represent Alaska Air Transit and present the Takotna checkpoint award. So I got to give that to Jessie Royer two nights ago. It was a Pendleton blanket with Alaska Air Transit on it, so that was fun.
What is your Why?..Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?
I am here today and involved with the Iditarod, because, obviously, I’m here for my job as a volunteer, but also because it’s nice to get to know the locals and put a face to the name, to all the people that I have to talk to on the phone every day. It’s really exciting to be a part of something that’s so big and meaningful to Alaska.
Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences?
One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences in Takotna was opening the door on the first day and being greeted with a whole bunch of cooks in the kitchen waiting to feed me pies.
What do you know for sure?:
What I know for sure in life is how much I love working for air taxis in Alaska, because I really get to see how it brings communities together, whether it’s flying out groceries to the communities or flying out sleds for the Iditarod. It shows how important it is to bring everybody together, and I love being a part of it.
