What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first became involved with Iditarod 10 years ago as a volunteer. I was working in an elementary school at the time, and they were studying the Iditarod in third grade. And I remember being a third grader and studying it. And so I looked up the Iditarod website and I saw the link to volunteering and I clicked on it and decided to volunteer for one year. And that was in 2011. And I’ve been volunteering ever since.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod because I love the race, I love the people, and I love being able to get to experience and see different parts of Alaska that I would not be able to explore otherwise.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences:

I have many experiences that I enjoy, but one of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was last year in White Mountain, helping with the rescue of a couple of mushers. I was in the middle of that one, and it was quite an experience.

What in life do you know for sure?

What I know for sure in life is that kindness will get you a long way. And kindness and compassion and empathy make the world a better place.
