What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I got involved with the Iditarod when I saw the food drop on television back in 2000 and – I wanna say – ’11. And then that next year I came down. Well, I had wanted to get involved before that but I never knew the dates or when to sign up, so when I saw it then the next year, I made sure I signed up and came down and started helping out.

What is your Why?.. Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod because I enjoy working with… I like to volunteer. And this is a good cause. And I started with it that first year and just kind of made it a yearly event. So I do the food drop and then I go up to the restart and I work up at the restart the whole time. And it’s just kind of something I do every year now, so…

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:

Okay, one of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was – I guess I’d have to generalize it and say – I think I’m in good shape. I’m retired but I go to the gym a lot. But when I come out here and do a straw day or a food drop or even the restart, I’m whooped by the end of the day. So I guess my Iditarod experience is it, it shows me that I’m not in shape, so…

What do you know for sure?:

What I know for sure in life is, you never know how long it’s gonna last, so, I’m in retirement mode and I wanna enjoy myself. I fish a lot and help out with the Iditarod and stay busy during the year so I can get old gracefully.
