What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first became involved in the Iditarod probably, oh, 12 or so years ago, just following the race. I think I saw an article in the local newspaper about somebody winning it, so I got involved. And then I continued to get involved as a teacher.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today because I was the 2015 Iditarod teacher on the trail and I’m here helping with the conference, the Iditarod Educators Conference. I’m presenting today and helping with the conference all this week.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences.

I guess my most memorable Iditarod experience was actually being out on the trail in 2015. I got to fly in the bush planes to the different checkpoints. I got to go to Huslia that year because the race started from Fairbanks. And just meeting the different villagers and being part of the race was my most memorable experience.

What do you know for sure?

What I know for sure in life is that you have to be happy to enjoy it.
