What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?:

I got involved with Iditarod last year doing pre-race vet checks. My husband’s in the military and we’ve been here for about a year and a half. Pre-race vet checks last year hooked me and I applied to be on the trail for this year, and so I’m excited to be a rookie trail vet for the year.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod, because I have had this dream since I was a kid. I’ve always known I wanted to be a veterinarian, and learning about the Iditarod in elementary school down in the South just captured my heart and has always been a dream. Being up here in Alaska has afforded me the opportunity to apply and chase that dream, and be here for these amazing athletic dogs and the spirit of mushing in general.

Tell me about your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:

One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was the first time coming out for pre-race vet checks and seeing the excitement of the mushers, as well as the general excitement of the dogs. Hearing them cry and jump for joy and just knowing that in their hearts that this is what they are meant to do, and that they absolutely love it and love the drive and just strive to be the best athletic dogs on the planet.

What do you know for sure?:

What I know for sure in life is you can find joy in anything.
