What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?:
I first became involved in the Iditarod when I was about nine, when I lived here as a young kid, and we went to the start and the restart in Anchorage and Willow, and I have been an avid fan ever since. Knew I wanted to be a veterinarian at some point on the Iditarod. It took me 30 years to get here.
What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?
I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod because it’s something very cool to do. It’s a new experience, gives you a new experience to use your veterinary skills. I’m really in awe of the mushers and the dogs and the athletes that they are, and really getting on a new adventure to see different parts of Alaska that I’ve not seen before.
Tell me about your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:
One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences will be something in the future. I’ve not been on one yet to work. I’m excited about, again, new adventures, new experiences, meeting the villagers, meeting the mushers. But I do remember as a young kid sitting at that start line watching DeeDee Jonrowe, Martin Buser, Jeff King all go by and it was just such a neat experience, and seeing them take off from Willow at the restart, going off on their thousand-mile journey was really just a unique thing to watch, so I’m really excited.
What do you know for sure?:
What I know for sure in life is that you always need to expect the unexpected. That’s what makes life very exciting, very adventurous, and really just the ultimate adventure. You’re just one decision away from a totally different life, and usually that’s a great thing to think about in the positive.
