What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

So I grew up in Alaska all my life, in Southwest Alaska, but I never went to an Iditarod until I was a resident of Anchorage. And I thought now that I’m here, it would be really cool to see the ceremonial start. And so I went a few times in 2003, 2004, but I really started enjoying the activities more once my first child was born about six years ago. And we watch the dog races every year.

What is your Why?..Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved in Iditarod because it’s fun for my kids. It’s a nice place to meet friends. In fact, some friends just told me about Booty Alley this year and I was excited to check it out.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences?

One of my most memorable experiences of Iditarod was when we were over by the ANMC Hospital and my kids watched the race from a little tree. They climbed a tree and they were hanging in the branches watching the mushers go underneath.

What do you know for sure?:

What I know for sure in life is that it’s important to find places and spaces to meet with your family and friends, and this is one of them.
