What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first became involved with the Iditarod 25 years ago this year, because I went to Nome as a tourist, fell in love with the event. Actually I was at home on Kodiak when Martin Buser won that year. And I debated on whether we were going to go or not to Nome to see the Iditarod, because the winner had already happened. And so we did go, immediately changed our flight plans. Stayed for days longer. And then I knew at the banquet of that year that I would become involved.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today and involved with the Iditarod because after working for so many years with the volunteers and the mushers in this community, it is like family. And they say that. And I’ve been away for a few years, but I feel like I’ve of come back into the embrace of the Iditarod family.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences.

The funnest Iditarod experience as a volunteer for me was when I got hot towels provided by a hotel for Kaltag. And the mushers, when they walked in the community center, they were able to go and get a hot, steamed towel to wash off their face or anything else they wanted at that point in the race.

What in life do you know for sure? What I know for sure in life is that dogs are some of the most magical beings on this planet.
