What is your Why?.. Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?:
I LOVE THE DOGS. I’VE ACTUALLY RUN BLACK LABS IN FIELD TRIALS. I’M MORE OF A DOG PERSON WITH THE RETRIEVERS, BUT I JUST LOVE THE RACE. I LOVE THE EXCITEMENT ABOUT IT. I’M RETIRED, SO I DON’T HAVE TO BE ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME SO I’M PRETTY FLEXIBLE. I JUST REALLY ENJOY IT. THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS RACE ARE JUST THE RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE I WANT TO BE AROUND.
Tell me about your most rewarding experience on Iditarod?:
MY FIRST YEAR I WAS IN NULATO, I WAS THERE FOR THE CATASTROPHE IN NULATO. AND THE SECOND YEAR I GOT TO NOME, I CAME OUT OF SHAKTOOLIK. AND THE FIRST TIME I GOT TO NOME, THE FIRST MUSHER I SAW WAS KRISTIN BACON COMING ACROSS THE FINISH LINE WITH CROSBY. AND I HAD HELPED CROSBY IN NULATO. HE’S THE ONE THAT HAS THE PINS AND THE PLATE IN HIS LEG. SEEING CROSBY FINISH – GO UNDER THE ARCHES – WAS PRETTY SPECIAL FOR ME. THAT’S ONE I’LL NEVER FORGET.
What do you know for sure?:
IT’S ALL ABOUT FAMILY AND STAYING ACTIVE; JUST MAKING THE MOST OF WHAT YOU’VE GOT. HOPEFULLY I’M STILL IN GOOD PHYSICAL CONDITION AND DO SOME TRAVELING AND SEE THE WORLD BEFORE I CAN’T DO IT ANY MORE.
