What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I got involved with Iditarod after moving to Alaska. I happened to catch some Aliy Zirkle videos talking about how beautiful the trail was and it was challenging, but that’s why people do it. And if it was easy, everyone would do it. And then I learned that there were ways that you could volunteer for Iditarod, so I started to get involved that way.

What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?

I’m here today involved with Iditarod because I just can’t get enough of the happy dogs and seeing how much they love doing what they’re doing out there. And as soon as I see them, especially before they start a run or especially at the beginning of a race, how excited they are, it makes me happy to see them so happy.

Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences.

One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was several years ago. One of the ways you could volunteer was to host an out-of-town volunteer. So I did that in my home. And this one year the person I was matched up with we had a lot of similarities between us, and we’ve become really good friends and have followed a lot of races since. So it’s great to be able to meet some great people here.

What do you know for sure?:

What I know for sure in life is that if you follow your passions, you will find happiness.
