What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

Coming to the Iditarod has always been on my bucket list. I got involved with Iditarod from reading all the books and everything, but one of my best friends was coming up here and talked me into it. We came up here one summer on vacation and came to the Alaska State Fair and I met Joanne Potts and Martin Buser and Jeff King and they said I had to come, so two years later I came and I’ve been coming every winter since then.

What is your Why?.. Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?

I am here today and involved with the Iditarod because I love northern tier dogs. I just run my own dogs for fun but I’m intrigued with the history of the Iditarod, the history of sled dogging, and also the sport of sled dog mushing. One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was five years ago. I left the lake front, was going across the street to catch the commercial bus, and I heard brakes squeal and next thing I know I looked and here was a moose walking right beside me heading for a tree to have his breakfast.

What I know for sure in life is, I’m a breast cancer survivor and I’ve learned that I enjoy life to the fullest every day.
