What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?:
I got involved with the Iditarod because it’s always been a thought in my head through vet school that that’s something I would like to do. I got busy with work, family. My husband and I actually had the opportunity to meet Aliy Zirkle in of all places at Northern Florida in 2021, right after she had her very difficult race, and it really made me go do it now. And so this year I volunteered and I was accepted.
What is your Why? Why are you here TODAY and involved with the Iditarod?
I am here today. I’m being involved with the Iditarod again, just because it’s always been one of those things that’s been in the back of my head that I said It is amazing. The dogs are amazing athletes and to be a part of watching them do something that they love like that is an honor and a privilege.
Tell me about your most memorable Iditarod experiences?:
So far I guess today is my most honorable Iditarod experience. I don’t really have one yet. Meeting new people, of course, is always fun. Can’t wait to get out on the trail.
What do you know for sure?:
All I know for sure in life is retire early, have fun. If you need to go back to work, do it. There’s no guarantee. And do those things that excite you.
