What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?
I got involved with the Iditarod from a pretty young age, because in elementary school we would follow the race and read the newspaper and pick out our favorite mushers, so really just growing up in Alaska and living in Anchorage where they have the ceremonial start, that was my very first introduction, was following along with the race and going to the start.
What is your Why?..Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?
I am here today and involved with Iditarod because I recently got into mushing, and I have a few good friends that work alongside with the Iditarod, like Jeff Schultz, who were able to kind of help me along, get out on the trail, and experience some behind-the-scenes of this race in the chance that I myself may want to run it someday.
Tell me about just one of your most memorable Iditarod experiences?
One of my most memorable Iditarod experiences was actually running into some of the dogs that I myself mushed with on a 440 mile race. They are now running with Aaron Burmeister’s team, and there’s even one on Michelle Phillips’ team, so being able to check on these teams and see all these old, familiar faces was definitely very, very cool.
What do you know for sure?:
What I know for sure in life is nothing is for sure. Things are always changing, and you really never know what’s going to happen next or what’s waiting for you around the corner.
