What, who or how and when did you first get involved with the Iditarod?

I first got involved with Iditarod in 1992 and then I started, well I was photographing the race then, and then in ’94 I got shipped out to Rohn and started working the Rohn checkpoint every year.

What is one of your most memorable experiences with the Iditarod?

My most memorable Iditarod experience was probably the first time I drove the snow machine out in 1995 all by myself, all the way to Rohn from Big Lake and that was truly an incredible experience. I was out ahead before the trail breakers were ever even out there, so it was a true adventure. It’s truly a unique experience to be involved with this Iditarod organization …

What does the 50th running of the Iditarod mean to you?

Knowing this is the 50th Iditarod makes me feel … It’s a real treat to be involved with the race. You know, I got so many good memories of it all, and it’s been incredible. Every year is different and exciting, and hopefully it goes on for at least another 50 years.

What do you know for sure?:

What I know for sure, life is an adventure and you need to make it one. Otherwise, life would be boring and ever since I moved to Alaska in ’81, it’s been an amazing adventure every time I turn around in Alaska. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
